1. What made you join Transformations 4 Life Boot Camps?
Wayne: I had already started a weight loss program and was looking to add exercise as a part of my next step to maintaining my weight. I am inspired by the Holy Spirit moving me to be ready for something big and my very energetic granddaughter.
Kathleen: Actually, it was over a year ago that my daughter asked me to go with her for exercise. We had seen information at church about the boot camp. Life then got in the way and we both stopped. About 10 months ago Wayne and I decided it was time to really focus and lose weight. After about 5 months of just walking for exercise, I was looking for something more. Walking is good, but it gets boring for me. I remembered about the boot camps, and that I liked it. Wayne and I decided to do the boot camps together.
2. How long have you been coming?
Wayne & Kathleen: We started in mid-January, so that makes it about 4.5 months now.
3. What have you enjoyed most?
Wayne: The encouragement of Julie, Harlan, and fellow campers has kept me going even when I did not think I could. I have also enjoyed meeting new friends with similar goals.
Kathleen: It is not boring. Every class is different in some form. You work hard, but in a way without really knowing you have worked hard. Once we get started and warmed up, the time moves right along, and then you are cooling down. I love how Julie & Harlan care about each individual. Julie takes into consideration the most advanced person and those just getting started. She provides modifications to exercises for those with issues or just not there yet. Julie pushes you not in a marine style, but in a God loving, encouraging, “you can do” it way. I also love that both Julie & Harlan will take time to share their wisdom with you whenever you have questions.
4. What results have you experienced so far?
Wayne: My stamina is at least 5 times what it used to be before boot camp. Lean healthy muscle is replacing that stubborn fat that diet alone could not seem to shed. Between diet and exercise I have now lost a total of 10 inches in my waist and I am about 20 pounds shy of my goal weight of 210 pounds.
Kathleen: I am stronger. Not in just one area, but all over (mind, body, and spirit). I feel better about myself. Since starting boot camp in Jan I have gone from a size 14 to a size 10. This change has been due to the exercise and muscle toning. Thank you Julie. Wayne and I are both more active and enjoying a healthier lifestyle due to all the encouragement we have received.
5. What have you learned about yourself?
Wayne: My wife and I had recently come back from a camping and hiking trip at Fall Creek Falls. We both were able to accomplish challenges that before boot camp would have been impossible.
Kathleen: With God all things are possible including healthier eating and exercise. There have been several times I did not think I could do another round of step-ups or burpies. I would pray, and God has not failed me yet to help. Wayne & I went to Fall Creek Falls State Park recently. Looking down the steep “cable trail” I was not sure if we could do it. Yep, I prayed. That whole trip we kept thinking about the workouts we had been doing and how they helped us on each trail we attempted.
6. What new goals have you set for yourself?
Wayne: To continue to work out and eat healthy. My goal is not to just lose weight and become more fit….but to be transformed in my eating habits and exercise daily to maintain a healthy balance to overcome the everyday stress of life. I am looking forward to one day riding my bike over 100 miles in a single ride, run a 1/2 marathon, and perhaps a full marathon.
Kathleen: I am still working on my burpies and pushups. I still have a ways to go on the V-ups and suitcases. I hope to start using the 10lbs weights soon. This is a difference from my pink 2lbs weights I started with in Jan. Wayne & I have been riding our bicycles, so I am hoping to improve our distance and time. It will be interesting to see where we are in a year.
